Galicia - What to See

Galicia is a magical region, small in size but with so very much to offer.

There is a different side of Galicia to suit every visitor who ventures into its lands, and we invite you to paint your own picture of the region. Our campsite can be the perfect base for your explorations.

Here at As Cancelas, we can offer you different outings to various corners of Galicia that set off from the campsite and drop you back here at the end. We can take you to Finisterre to see the “end of the world”, the stunning coastal are of Rías Baixas, and a list of the area's other treasures.

Visit the region's official tourism website www.turgalicia.es for more detailed information on Galicia and its attractions, its gastronomy, the experiences you can live here, upcoming events, current affairs, useful information and much more. We highly recommend the website! You will find information in seven languages and it is the most practical way to ensure you make the very most of your trip to Galicia.

If you feel spoilt for choice, we at As Cancelas would like to help you by offering you a selection of our top ten Galician must-sees, all of which are easy to get to from our campsite:

  1. Santiago de Compostela and The Way of Saint James. History, tradition, spirituality and art converge in a single destination.
  2. Islas Cíes, an Atlantic paradise with islands of white sand bathed in clear waters.
  3. Finisterre and Costa da Morte, the most stunning end of the world you could ever imagine.
  4. Ribeira Sacra, where centuries of wine tradition meet Roman past in an inland haven.
  5. Rías Baixas, traditionally charming seaside towns, breathtaking beaches and no end of activities.
  6. The Beach of Las Catedrales, a stunning monument shaped by nature.
  7. A Coruña and the Tower of Hercules, city sightseeing overlooking the sea.
  8. The walled city of Lugo, a living testament of times gone by.
  9. Castro de Baroña, Celtic tradition on the sea shore.
  10. The sand dunes of Corrubedo, Galicia's very own desert.

We will happily help you organise any of these trips.

Last but by no means least, we must not forget the Galician gastronomy, one of the cornerstones of local culture, worthy of special mention and a great many awards. Our estuaries have joined forces with the land to offer us ingredients of outstanding and renowned quality, with a fabulous variety and unmistakeable flavours. When you visit, be sure to taste the Galician shellfish and seafood, our famous empanadas, the traditional pulpo á feira octopus, peppers from Padrón, our superb meats, Galician bread, cold cuts, the local stew or cocido, lacón con grelos, filloas... Simply mouthwatering!
